So I hate to post a recipe I wasnt very fond of but I think maybe we can start a thread of comments about how to change a recipe up to make it taste better..
Today I made this recipe being very excited to finally have an Asian inspired healthy meal in my kitchen, the only other thing I can make is sweat and sour chicken but that is in no way healthy for you. So I started the whole thing before I went to work and slow cooked it all day! It wasnt bad! Carl rated it a 6.3 on a 10 pt scale but it tasted more like bbq ribs than orange chicken. Im going to post the recipe I used and I want everyone to comment and give me and everyone else ideas for what would be better to use other than the bbq sauce. The taste was so overpowering it definitely didnt taste like "ORANGE CHICKEN" like in the Asain cuisine.
8 pcs of boneless skinless chicken thighs
3 tbls flour
1/3 cup orange marmalade
1/3 cup sweet BBQ sauce
2tbls soy sauce
1 tbls of ginger (I used ground but it called for fresh grated)
Toss chicken in flour inside crock pot. Next add all other ingredients, combine together.
Cook on low 6-8 hrs or high 3-4 hrs.'
I served it with white rice.
I hate posting a recipe I wasnt fond of but I promised one everyday!
Tomorrow will be how to boil the perfect egg and a little other advice because tomorrow's cheat day! Eating out! YAY!

I think you're missing the orange rhines?!?!
ReplyDeleteyay for cheat day!!! even if we didnt eat at Napasorn. on the Orange chicken note...i use orange juice and brown sugar and little lemon. hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteorange chicken is pretty tricky! I think the one I made tasted like too much Orange, I'll have to find the recipe.. maybe if we combine the two it would turn out perfect!
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies! I'll take all this into consideration the next time I make it if I even try it again.. haha! Jen Im going to try your Cashew Chicken when I get home!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...the recipe sounds good. Maybe if you added some frozen orange concentrate. This will add to the liquid and might make it more tender.
ReplyDeleteThanks kelly! That is a great idea too!
